Launch Information

    Orbital Sciences Antares Test Launch
    Mission Briefings and Events Coverage for Members of the Media


    The inaugural Antares launch from Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) Pad-0A at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, Va., is scheduled for no earlier than Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m. EDT. NASA Television coverage begins at 4:30 p.m. If launch time is targeted for later in the launch window, NASA TV commentary will begin 30 minutes before liftoff.

    Media Center
    The NASA Wallops Media Center, located in Bldg. J-93 at the NASA Wallops Visitors Center, Virginia Highway 175, Wallops Island, Va., will be open on launch day beginning at 10 a.m.

    News Media Launch Viewing
    News media may view the launch from Bldg. U-80 on the mainland area of Wallops Island. The site is approximately 2.25 miles from the launch pad. An escort will depart from the Wallops Visitors Center at approximately 3 p.m.on launch day.

    NASA Web Prelaunch and Launch Coverage
    Prelaunch and launch day coverage of the mission will be available on the NASA website. Coverage will include live streaming and text updates beginning at 3:30 p.m. as the countdown milestones occur. Photos and video of the launch will be available shortly after liftoff.     Post-Launch News Conference
    The post-launch news conference for the Antares test flight will be held at the Wallops Visitors Center at approximately 90 minutes after launch. NASA Television will provide live coverage as well as streaming internet coverage. This event is for preregistered media participants.

    Post-launch news conference participants will include NASA and Orbital representatives.

    Media can participate in the post-launch news conference in person at the Wallops Visitors Center or via a phone bridge by calling the Johnson Space Center newsroom no later than 15 minutes before the briefings begin. The number to call is (281) 483-5111.
