Stennis Employee Named NASA Procurement Person of the Year

NASA has recognized John C. Stennis Space Center employee Jason Edge of Perkinston as Procurement Person of the Year through the agency’s Small Business Advocates Awards Program.
NASA recently recognized John C. Stennis Space Center employee Jason Edge of Perkinston as Procurement Person of the Year. Each year, NASA recognizes outstanding efforts in developing and implementing innovative practices in support of the agency’s small business program. Sponsored by the Office of Small Business Programs, the annual awards acknowledge the contributions made by NASA personnel and contractors throughout the agency.
Awards are presented to individuals and teams based on their general impact on NASA’s Small Business Program, their impact on the NASA mission and their use of innovative methodologies and processes.
A Gulfport native, Edge has served as a lead construction specialist at Stennis Space Center since 2000. In that position, he has responsibilities as the contracting officer for all NASA direct construction projects.
As contracting officer for the A-3 Test Stand construction contracts, Edge supported the Stennis Small Business Office in exceeding its Small Disadvantaged Business and Historically Underutilized Business Zone goals for fiscal years 2007 and 2008. With the contract award for the center’s north and south gate modifications in fiscal year 2009, the office also met – and exceeded – its service-disabled, veteran-owned small business project goal by 70 percent.
Edge also developed a safety incentive for every construction contract, which provides for a potential award in each instance. A decrease in safety violations also correlates to an indirect cost savings associated with less lost time accidents and work being re-done.
Edge said he is “humbled” by the award, announced during last month’s Small Business symposium and Awards Ceremony in Bethesda, Md.
“Jason Edge has always been a strong advocate of NASA’s Small Business Program while effectively serving our customers,” Stennis Procurement Officer Susan Dupuis said. “He works closely with our small business specialist to set-aside projects to help achieve/exceed center small business goals. We are very proud that Jason was selected for this well-deserved NASA-wide award.”
Edge is a graduate of Gulfport High School and received a bachelor of science from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. In addition to the SBAA honor, he received the NASA contract Specialist of the Year award in 2002 and a NASA Space Flight Awareness award for contributions to flight safety in 2008.
