STENNIS SPACE CENTER OPENS DOORS FOR COMMUNITY DAY

Stennis Space Center’s (SSC) Community Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, Labor Day weekend. Events begin at 5 p.m. and the gates open to the public at 4 p.m.
Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners to this family-oriented event. Food and drink vendors will also be available.
Various organizations at SSC, including NASA, Navy, NOAA, resident agencies and support contractors, will have exhibits and demonstrations about their missions. The day’s events will include NASA astronauts, tours of America’s largest rocket engine test complex, Astro Camp activities for children and extended hours at StenniSphere, the visitor center at SSC.
Stage performances feature: the Coastal Vibrations jazz ensemble from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College; the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center’s WINGS; and the Coast Chorale group.
Highlighting SSC Community Day will be the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra performing a patriotic concert followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
Passes are required for SSC Community Day and can be obtained free of charge from the Chambers of Commerce in Mississippi’s Hancock and Pearl River counties; Slidell, Louisiana; and the Launch Pad adjacent to the Hancock County Welcome Center on Interstate 10. Passes will also be available at North Shore Mall in Slidell on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information, call (228) 688-2370 or 1-800-237-1821.
