Media Invited to NASA Events Spotlighting Partnerships with Small Business, Minority Colleges

Media will have the opportunity to speak with officials from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, at events Feb. 22 and 23 highlighting the importance of partnerships with historically black colleges and the critical role small businesses play in the success of NASA’s missions.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, Marshall will sponsor the third annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)/Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Partnerships Meeting from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Huntsville Museum of Art, 300 Church St. SW.

Tabisa Kalisa, program manager for NASA’s Office of Small Business Programs in Washington, will speak at the HBCU/MSI Partnerships meeting, along with Marshall Center Director Todd May, Marshall small business specialist David Brock, and representatives of Tennessee State University, Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, and the University of Texas at El Paso.

Panel discussions on HBCU/MSI mentor-protégé programs will include NASA contractors Teledyne Brown Engineering, Orbital ATK and SAIC, and representatives from Oakwood University in Huntsville, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

On Feb. 23, more than 600 representatives of small business from across the nation have registered for the Marshall Small Business Alliance Meeting from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Davidson Center of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center at 1 Tranquility Base, Huntsville.

May, Kalisa and Brock also will speak at this meeting, along with representatives of several programs at Marshall, including the Space Launch System Program, Human Exploration Development and Operations, Science and Technology, and Procurement.
