NASA's Michoud Facility in New Orleans, Marshall Center in Huntsville, Ala., to Host 'NASA Day in Baton Rouge' May 8 at State Capitol

What: On May 8, NASA will host its first "NASA Day in Baton Rouge" event at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge, celebrating the space agency's enduring presence and strong economic partnership with the State of Louisiana. NASA officials and team members from NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. - which manages the Michoud Facility for the agency - will meet with state officials and the public, celebrating the vital work of these NASA institutions and the Louisiana workforce which crucially supports NASA and the nation.

Marshall Center Director Patrick Scheuermann will meet with Gov. Bobby Jindal; La. State Sen. Jack Donahue, chairman of the Louisiana State Finance Committee; La. State Rep. Charles Kleckley, Speaker of the Louisiana State House; and other state officials and lawmakers. The event also will include a public display of NASA exhibits in the Capitol building; a media availability with Scheuermann; and numerous meetings between NASA and Louisiana state leadership.

Among the NASA exhibits on display in the capitol will be a scale model of NASA's Space Launch System, the heavy-lift launch vehicle now being developed, built and tested at the Marshall Center and Michoud facility, and set to carry explorers to new solar system destinations in the coming decade.

Where: Louisiana State Capitol Building, 900 North 3rd St., Baton Rouge, La.

When: 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 - NASA exhibits will be available for viewing by the public in the Louisiana State Capitol.

12:30 p.m. - Marshall Center Director Patrick Scheuermann will speak with members of the news media in the Capitol Building.
