Media Advisory: 05-040

What: Results and photos from NASA’s 12th annual “Great Moonbuggy Race” will be posted to the Marshall Space Flight Center Newsroom at:

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/marshall/news

When: Information will be posted shortly after each day's competition:

• Friday, April 8 Early evening
• Saturday, April 9 Early evening

Who: High school and college teams compete against the clock with human-powered moonbuggies they have designed and built. Two-member coed teams race the vehicles over a half-mile course at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. High school teams race all day Friday, college teams all day Saturday.

Why: The race exposes students to real-world engineering experiences. Problems they face are similar to those encountered by the original NASA Marshall Center team in charge of design, development and testing of the lunar roving vehicle that traveled across the Moon's terrain in 1970s.

News media interested in covering the event should contact Martin Jensen of the Marshall Public Affairs Office at (256) 544-0034.
