NASA leader and astronaut to visit Albertville school

Marshall Center Director David King and NASA astronaut Dr. Donald Thomas will visit with students and faculty at Alabama Avenue Middle School in Albertville, Ala., Thursday, Nov. 4. They will talk with the students about our destiny as explorers, NASA's approach to exploration, the impact of space on our lives and how people and machines rely on each other in space.

The director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., and an astronaut will visit Alabama Avenue Middle School in Albertville, Ala., a NASA Explorer School, on Thursday, Nov. 4. They will share the Vision for Space Exploration with the students who represent the next generation of explorers.

When: Thursday, Nov. 4, 1 p.m. CST

Who: David King, director of NASA's Marshall Center; and astronaut Dr. Donald A. Thomas, a veteran of four Space Shuttle missions, who has logged 17.6 million miles and 1,040 hours in space.

Where: Alabama Avenue Middle School, 600 East Alabama Ave., Albertville, Ala.

During their visit, King and Thomas will talk with students about our destiny as explorers, NASA's stepping-stone approach to exploring Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond, how space impacts our lives, and how people and machines rely on each other in space. They will also focus on the career opportunities in a variety of occupations that students can pursue now and in the future.

Members of the news media are invited to cover the entire visit on Nov. 4.
