Three key NASA leaders, including a top education official and a member of the Astronaut Corps, will visit Sioux Central Middle School — a NASA Explorer School — in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, April 8, to share the Vision for Space Exploration with the next generation of explorers.

Who: Barbara Cherry, deputy associate administrator for NASA's Education Enterprise; Rex Geveden, deputy director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. ; and astronaut-pilot Lt. Col. George Zamka, who leads training and procedures for the Astronaut Corps at Johnson Space Center in Houston

When: Thursday, April 8, 9:50 a.m. CDT

Where: Sioux Central Middle School, 4440 Highway 71, Sioux Rapids, Iowa

"Right now, tomorrow's space explorers are seated in America's classrooms — asking questions, solving problems and conducting experiments," Cherry said. "As NASA carries out the Vision for Space Exploration, we remain committed to working closely with our schools, fostering learning environments that will stimulate these future travelers to the Moon, to Mars and beyond."

During the visit, Cherry, Geveden and Zamka will talk with students about our destiny as explorers, NASA's bold stepping-stone approach to exploring the space frontier, how space impacts our lives and how people and machines rely on each other in space.

Members of the news media are invited to cover the entire visit. A media availability will be held on site at 11 a.m.

For media interested in arranging one-on-one interviews with Cherry, Geveden or Zamka in conjunction with their visit to Sioux Central Middle School, please contact Martin Jensen of the Marshall Center Media Relations Department at 256/544-0034.
