Amelia Earhart to 'visit' Hunstville school in celebration of 'Centennial of Flight'.


What: Terry Heights Elementary School in Huntsville will mark the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight Wednesday. On hand will be NASA Marshall Space Flight Center employees playing the roles of the following aviation pioneers: Amelia Earhart, the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air; Mae Jemison, the first African American female astronaut; Eileen Collins, the commander of the next Space Shuttle mission and other aviators from the past. Students will participate in workshops and presentations during the event.

Orville and Wilber Wright's first heavier-than-air flight occurred with their Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk, N.C., on Dec.17, 1903. The Centennial of Flight is being commemorated with events from coast to coast.

Who: Third through fifth-graders from Terry Heights will participate in the festivities.

When: Wednesday, Dec.17, 2003; 8:30 a.m.
