For release: 04/07/03
Release #: 03-053
What: Results and photos from NASA's 10th annual "Great Moonbuggy Race" will be posted to the Marshall Space Flight Center's News Web site.
Who: High school and college teams compete with their human-powered moonbuggies they have designed and built. Two-member coed teams race the vehicles over a half-mile course at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. High school teams race all day Friday, college teams all day Saturday.
When: Results and photos will be posted on the Web site shortly after each day's competition.
Friday, April 11 - early evening
Saturday, April 12 - early evening
Where to find results: Marshall Center Newsroom
Why: The race challenges students to design and build a human-powered vehicle so they will be exposed to real-world engineering experiences. Problems they face are similar to those encountered by the original Marshall Center team in charge of design, development and testing of the lunar roving vehicle in the 1960s and 1970s.
News media interested in covering the event should contact Jerry Berg of the Marshall Media Relations Department at (256) 544-0034.
