NASA engineer Linda Clark works in the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. She and her team have spent two years developing non-invasive technologies to evaluate the Shuttle External Tank’s thermal protection system. The 154-foot-long tank is covered with an insulating spray-on foam, which maintains the tank’s interior temperature and prevents buildup of ice on the exterior. Clark, a 16-year NASA veteran, is a key player in helping NASA to ensure safe, reliable flight operations for STS-114: Space Shuttle Return to Flight. The Marshall Center manages all Shuttle propulsion elements for NASA. Shuttle Discovery is scheduled to launch to space between July 13 and July 31. (NASA/MSFC)
