Boy Scout troop gets rocket lesson from member of Manlius Pebble Hill School's Student Launch team.

A group of Boy Scouts listens intently as co-captain Ryan Guerra from Manlius Pebble Hill School in Dewitt, N.Y., explains his team's rocket design at NASA's Student Launch Initiative — a hands-on educational program sponsored by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., that encourages students to pursue careers in science, math and engineering. Launch activities were held in Manchester, Tenn., at "Southern Thunder 2004," a regional rocket competition. The competition gave Student Launch teams a chance to mingle with other amateur rocket builders and inspire an even younger audience to become the rocket builders of the future. Ten student teams from four states participated in the event. Manlius Pebble Hill School, winner for best vehicle design, was among five teams that took home top honors. (NASA/MSFC/Vince Huegele)
