From bacteria to plants to humans, the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology studies how gravity affects all aspects of life. These researchers use the low-gravity aboard an orbiting spacecraft to understand how living things have evolved under the constant force of Earth's gravity. With the gravity level changed, gravity-dependent traits often become apparent and are easier to observe. These plants were grown aboard the International Space Station — an orbiting outpost being used for these types of experiments and others. The society will discuss experiment results and research goals at its annual meeting in Huntsville, Ala., Nov. 12-16. (NASA)
