Joel S. Levine, senior research scientist in Langley's Science Directorate, accepted the Brooklyn College Distinguished Alumni Award on June 1, then delivered the commencement address for the college, which is part of the City University of New York.

Levine spoke of the critical importance for our nation to produce greater numbers of trained and proficient scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. Those greater numbers, Levine said, will enhance the quality of life in the United States and add to its national security and economic vitality.

Levine, along with wife Arlene, who works in the Strategic Relationships Office, are retiring on July 1.
