William Clayton 'Bill' Honaker
William Clayton 'Bill' Honaker, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008.
He was a native of Honaker and had lived on the Peninsula for the last 51 years. He graduated from Graham High School (Bluefield, Va.) and received his degree from Emory and Henry College. Bill was a Navy veteran having served during the Korean War.
William worked at NACA which became NASA in later years. In his years at NASA he was involved with the Hypersonic Wind Tunnel, Langleys Impact Dynamic Research Facility, and worked with pilots in the Differential Maneuvering Simulator. William's work also included work on the Apollo, Mercury and Space Shuttle Projects. He was also instrumental in the establishment of Jefferson Labs where he was the first person to run the Cycletron. He retired from NASA after 31 years of service as a Physicist serving as Head of Radiation Safety.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the home of his daughter Lisa Gray.
All services will be private.
The family would like to give their sincere thanks to the Doctors and Staff at the Newport News Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and care during William's time there.
