Roy W. 'Pat' Mason
 
Roy W. 'Pat' Mason, 71, passed away on March 23, 2009.

He was a native of Phoebus and a lifelong Peninsula resident. Pat retired from NASA, Langley Research Center (LaRC) in 1993, after 38 years of service. He was a graduate of the LaRC Apprentice Program. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his electrical support to experimental research facilities. Some of his accomplishments include being a member of the Scout Missile Project, Electrical Supervisor of the Lunar Landing Facility Construction, and Head of Laboratories Operations Branch. Pat also attained the position of Chief of Operations Support Division, which he held until his retirement. Pat never met a stranger and had a positive impact on all those he met. As a charter member of the York Rangers, Pat actively participated in the North-South Skirmish Association, both on a local and national level. He was an excellent marksman and also a member of the Olde Virginia Primitive Riflemen. He enjoyed his hobby of shooting and gunsmithing antique firearms. He was a life member of the NRA and the Lafayette Gun Club.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church by the Rev. Kenneth E. Wood. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 405 S. Parliament Drive, Suite 105, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, the Peninsula SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606.
