Larry Ray Tant, 75, a resident of Poquoson for 26 years, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 at Dominion Village of Poquoson.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1932 in Central, S.C. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, including a Pacific tour of duty aboard the USS Pittsburgh during the Korean War, he returned home to South Carolina, where he earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Clemson University in 1962. He then began his 34-year career as a aerospace technologist with NASA-Langley Research Center in Hampton. He earned a M.S. degree in engineering management from George Washington University in 1969. Larry worked in the Scout Project Office at NASA from 1968 to 1991, where he was the Launch Operations Manager for the project. He was very proud of the Scout Launch Vehicle Project and of his contributions to its success. Larry served in several volunteer roles for the Tidewater Clemson Club, the Clemson Alumni Association, and IPTAY, the main fundraiser of Clemson Athletics, and loyally followed his Tigers. He also served on the Poquoson Wetlands Board for 10 years.
Funeral services will be held at Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home in Seneca, S.C. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Clemson, S.C.
