W. Barry Lisagor passed away on Nov. 28, 2007.
He retired as Associate Chief, Materials Division, NASA-Langley Research Center.
He gladly served in the National Guard and active duty as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and Reserves.
He began his career during the space exploration years at NASA researching titanium and aluminum alloys used in space and medical implants. After spending two years in an experimental cancer treatment at Case Western University, Barry recently ended up with a titanium alloy implant in his head after one of his brain surgeries at MWH. At NASA, he received national and international recognition, visiting scientists in Russia several times. His career included patents, authoring books and publishing articles. His awards included the prestigious Francis L. LaQue Memorial Award in 2002, the ASTM Award of Merit and the title of Fellow. He was actively consulting with AS&M as a senior scientist.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 6170 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. The Rev. James Kniseley and the Rev. Carol Kniseley officiating. Interment will be private.
