Antoinette Bishop Retires After 34 Years at NASA Langley
2.15.08
Antoinette Bishop came to NASA Langley at 18 as a clerk typist in the fabrication shop, right out of high school. Thirty-four years later, on Feb. 15, she leaves the Business Systems Branch with a master's degree, 35 achievement awards and a lot of memories.
"I was raised on NASA," she says. "I got my first car, first house, first husband, first everything at NASA."
Gone now are plants in her office. "It was like a botanical garden in there," she says laughing. And gone are the awards. Gone are many of the friends. "A lot of my friends have retired or died," she says. "I'm kind of like a fish out of water now."
On Feb. 15 she leaves, and the following Monday she tries a new pond with a Defense Department job.
