Wyman, a 42-year-old native of Greensboro, N.C., who currently resides
in Virginia Beach, Va., began work at the center Feb. 14. As news
chief, he will be responsible for all interactions with print,
broadcast and social media, as well as overseeing the creation and
distribution of information about the center's key activities.
Before coming to NASA, Wyman served as the Public Affairs Officer for
the U.S. Coast Guard's Atlantic Area command in Portsmouth, Va.,
where he managed Coast Guard public affairs operations between the
Rocky Mountains and the Arabian Gulf.
"Although there are huge differences between the roles of the Coast
Guard and NASA, both are multi-missioned organizations that have
played major roles in our country's history, and whose workforces
daily demonstrate initiative, creativity and dedication," said Wyman.
During his 24 years of military service, 20 of which were in public
affairs, he earned numerous professional honors, including awards for
excellence in journalism, photojournalism and communications, as well
as military honors for his efforts in support of Hurricane Katrina
and Deepwater Horizon oil spill response operations. He earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree from Thomas Edison State College in 2002, and
is currently working toward an MBA.
Langley Research Center is NASA's original field center specializing
in aeronautics research, atmospheric science and space exploration.
