One Week Left to Apply for Virginia Scholars Program

HAMPTON, Va. -- Calling Virginia high school juniors. Only seven days remain to apply for NASA’s Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program.

Highly praised by both former students and their parents, VASTS is a six-month online interactive science, engineering, math and technology program for high school and home-schooled juniors throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Successful completion of the online component enables students to vie for a one-week residential summer Academy at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton.

At the Academy students will work with NASA scientists, engineers and technologists to design a human mission to Mars.

Students who successfully complete the online coursework earn two college credits. Two additional credits are earned for successful completion of the summer Academy.

Deadline for applications is Friday, Nov. 6, 2009.

VASTS is a partnership between NASA Langley Research Center and the Virginia Space Grant Consortium with assistance from the Virginia Department of Education, the Commonwealth of Virginia and aerospace industry.
