NASA Langley celebrates its diverse work force August

NASA Langley Research Centers Diversity Awareness
Committee (DAC) will sponsor the Centers third annual
Diversity Day celebration at 11:30 a.m., Aug. 2, on the picnic
grounds of the H.J.E. Reid Conference Center.
This years event will feature a variety of cultural
displays and demonstrations, a cultural fashion show and
performances by Langley employees sharing their talents, a
presentation by NASA Langleys Child Development Center and an
assortment of ethnic food samplings.
To heighten disability awareness, non-disabled employees will be
asked to consider the challenges faced by people who have certain
limitations. The challenge will consist of a mock wheelchair
obstacle course, a computer simulation of different levels of
hearing loss, and specially designed goggles to simulate a variety
of visual impairments.
The keynote speaker will be Mr. Ron Villanueva, City Councilman
for Virginia Beach, Virginia. He will share his vision of working
in a harmonious work environment. "The purpose of Diversity Day is
to promote appreciation of our differences and to celebrate our
diverse cultural backgrounds," says James Fields, Diversity Day
chairperson.
