RELEASE NO. 98-010

Showing Kids That Science Is Fun
NASA LANGLEY RESEARCHERS HEAD TO THE CLASSROOM

As part of National Engineers Week, NASA Langley is sending more than 100 researchers into local schools to show kids that science and math are fun. The researchers will use hands-on demonstrations to explain the real-world applications of mathematics, science and technology.

The National Engineers Week program and related activities is the largest annual community outreach effort sponsored by NASA Langley. In 1997, over 140 employees participated, making presentations to more than 10,500 local elementary school students. This year, employees are targeting local middle school students in grades 6-8.

National Engineers Week, an annual event, is recognized Feb. 22-28, but NASA Langley researchers will visit schools through March. Some of the local schools that will be visited include Sedgefield Elementary (Feb. 26 and 27) and Huntington Middle School (March 2) in Newport News, and York Middle School in York County (Feb. 27 and March 3). For a detailed listing of participating schools, please call Gresha Brown (757) 864-5288.
