NOTE TO EDITORS: 170 FROM NASA TO PARTICIPATE IN "DAY OF CARING"

Along with hundreds of other citizens from the Peninsula, 170 employees and contractors from NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, Va., will volunteer during this year's community "Day of Caring," Thursday, September 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NASA Langley volunteers will fan out as far as the Child Development Resources Center in Croaker, to Maryview Nursing Care Center in Suffolk, and to nearby agencies including Big Brothers/Big Sister, the American Red Cross and the Peninsula Habitat for Humanity.

A full day of painting, landscaping, filing, carpentry and a host of other jobs await all Day of Caring volunteers. Langley employees have participated in this effort since 1992, and the number of volunteers grows each year. All available volunteer slots this year at the Center were filled the first day the announcement was made. NASA Langley cooperates with The Volunteer Center on the Peninsula to match its employees with the needs of the community.

Opportunities for video and interviews with employees are on-going throughout the Day of Caring. For information, Marny Skora will be available on a cell phone at (757) 880-9405, or call the Office of Public Affairs at (757) 864-6124 for a list of volunteer sites.
