RELEASE NO. 97-012
NASA LANGLEY TO CONDUCT 80TH ANNIVERSARY TOURS THROUGHOUT
1997
Beginning March 7, tours of NASA Langley Research Center will be
conducted on the first and third Friday of each month beginning at
2 p.m. NASA Langley is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its
founding by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA)
in 1917. The NACA became the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) in 1958.
Tours will begin at NASA Langleys Main Gate parking lot on
Commander Shepard Boulevard at 2 p.m. They will run from March
though Dec. 5, excluding the month of July. The tours will include
a drive-through of the NASA Langley Research Center with stops at
the lunar landing facility historical site, now the crash dynamics
facility, and two wind tunnels. There is no cost, and a bus is
provided.
There is a limit of 29 people on the tour, however, so
reservations are required. To make reservations, please call
Julie Fowler in the NASA Langley Office of Public Services at (757)
864-3309.
Another opportunity to see the Center will occur when an Open
House will held on Saturday, July 19, 1997.
