The news media is invited to a National Engineers Week program at Brandon Middle School in Virginia Beach, in the auditorium, February 28, 1996, from 8:20 to 9 a.m.
A highlight of the program will be a paper airplane competition among the students. NASA engineer Guy Kemmerly will be the presenter.
Classroom visitations will continue into mid-March. This year's program is targeted to students within a 50-mile radius who are in grades 3-7. More than 150 NASA civil servants, retirees and contractors are supporting the program, which shows students how math, science and engineering relate to the world around them and why their studies are important.
The Engineers Week program is the single largest community outreach effort sponsored by NASA Langley. Last year, 217 employees participated, reaching more than 19,000 students and teachers in 12 local school districts.
Brandon Middle School is at 1700 Pope Street, Virginia Beach, Va. The telephone number is (804) 366-4545. Directions to the school from the Hampton area: Take I-64 east; take the second Indian River Road exit; turn right onto Centerville Turnpike; turn left onto Brandon Boulevard, and then left onto Pope Street, which dead-ends at the school.
