Falling Load Impact Single Walloping Airbag Test (FLISWAT) experiment

Image above: An airbag is suspended from a large arm-like device at the gantry's 72-foot vertical drop tower for a Falling Load Impact Single Walloping Airbag Test (FLISWAT). Ranging from 20 feet-per-second to 30 feet-per-second, the tests involve slamming the airbag into a platform. FLISWATs give researchers more information on how airbags that could be used for the future Orion spacecraft will perform on impact. Credit: NASA/Sean Smith
