TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 22 at 9:23 a.m. EST
MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 4 hours, 55 minutes

NOTE: The orbiter Atlantis landed at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) runway 33 on the second opportunity today at 9:23 a.m. EST. Landing on the first opportunity was unacceptable due to forecast low clouds in the vicinity of the SLF.

About an hour after touchdown, the six members of the STS-81 crew departed the Shuttle Landing Facility and were taken to their crew quarters for post-mission medical examinations and visits with their families. The crew will remain in Florida tonight and return to their homes in Houston tomorrow.

The crew of mission STS-81 are: Commander Michael Baker, Pilot Brent Jett, and Mission Specialists Jeff Wisoff, John Grunsfeld, Marsha Ivins and John Blaha. Mission Specialist Jerry Linenger launched with Atlantis and remained on Russia's Mir space station.

Atlantis traveled 4.1 million miles and landed on orbit 161. This was Atlantis' 8th landing at KSC and the 34th overall at KSC in the history of the Shuttle program.

Now that Atlantis is on the ground, preparations are being made to tow the orbiter to Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 for post-flight deservicing and preparations for its next mission, STS-84, set for launch in May.
