STS-73/Columbia Launch Scrub

The launch of Space Shuttle Columbia was scrubbed at 4 a.m. today. During fueling operations a hydrogen leak was detected in main engine No. 1. It will be necessary to remove and replace the engine’s fuel valve, an operation which can be performed at the launch pad. A schedule of work is being developed; however, it is estimated that the next launch attempt will occur in about a week.

A press briefing will be held at 8 a.m. and will be carried on NASA Television.
