LOCAL STUDENT INTERNS AT NASA'S KENNEDY SPACE CENTER

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Brittany Griffin of Chandler, Ariz., has spent 
almost four months conducting experiments that will assist in NASA's 
mission to return humans to the moon.

Griffin, a member of NASA's Kennedy Intern Program is assigned to the 
corrosion technology laboratory in the applied technology department. 
Her research involves laboratory testing and analysis of various 
materials that may one day be used in the construction of a launch 
pad on the lunar surface. She is also creating a preliminary 
three-dimensional design of a rover that could assist in building the 
lunar launch pad.

The program offers internships to high school, undergraduate and 
graduate students. The objective of the program is to inform students 
about NASA's mission while providing a valuable work experience 
directly related to their academic course of study.

Griffin is a 2006 graduate of Hamilton High School in Chandler. She 
attends Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Ariz., where 
she is majoring in aerospace engineering. Her parents, Phil and 
Cherie Griffin, reside in Chandler.
