NASA Astronaut and Officials Visiting Atlanta Schools to Share Vision 
for Space with Nation's Youth 

A NASA astronaut and officials from the Agency will visit Ronald E. 
McNair High School and University Community Academy, NASA Explorer 
Schools in Atlanta, on Sept 20 to share the Vision for Space 
Exploration with the next generation of explorers.



The presentation at Ronald E. McNair High School will begin at 9 a.m. 
EDT at the school’s gymnasium, located at 1804 Bouldercrest Road S.E. 
Dr. Julian Earls, Director of NASA’s John H. Glenn Research Center in 
Cleveland, and astronaut Leland Melvin will talk with students about 
our destiny as explorers, NASA’s stepping-stone approach to exploring 
Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond, and different NASA careers needed 
to meet the Vision.



Starting at 1 p.m. EDT, Dr. Woodrow Whitlow, Deputy Director of NASA’s 
John F. Kennedy Space Center and astronaut Leland Melvin will address 
the students of University Community Academy at Camille Olivia Hanks 
Cosby Academic Center, 350 Spelman Lane S.W.M



"Right now, tomorrow's space explorers are seated in America's 
classrooms, asking questions, solving problems and conducting 
experiments," Whitlow said. "As NASA carries out the Vision for Space 
Exploration, we remain committed to working closely with our schools, 
fostering learning environments that will inspire these future space 
travelers."
