Expendable Launch Vehicle Status Report

AC-121/SOHO

To return AC-121 to flight readiness, two controllers with the proper material were identified for use in the booster and sustainer precision reference regulators. Both regulators were rebuilt, functionally checked out and hot-fire tested on a flight engine at the Rocketdyne Santa Susana test facility in California prior to shipment to Cape Canaveral. They were installed on AC-121 on November 29 and normal regulator checkout was performed according to prelaunch procedures. The vehicle was refueled with RP-1 earlier today in preparation for launch Saturday morning.

LAUNCH WEATHER FORECAST: During the launch window from 2:34 a.m. to 3:25 a.m. there will be scattered clouds, light and variable winds, and a temperature in the upper 50's. The chance of launch weather rule violation is 0 percent.

NOTE TO EDITORS: Media covering the launch of AC-121/SOHO will convoy from Gate 1 to Press Site 1 at 1 a.m. on Saturday, December 2. Launch commentary on NASA Television will begin at 1 a.m. and continue through spacecraft separation which occurs approximately 2 hours after launch. NASA Television is on Spacenet 2, transponder 5, channel 9 located at 69 degrees West longitude. Audio will also be available on the "V" circuits which may be dialed at 407/867-1220, 1240 or 1260. Media desiring to cover the extended Centaur coast phase will be escorted to the E&O Building on Cape Canaveral Air Station. Others may leave at this time. If there is sufficient media interest, a post launch news conference will be held in the E&O Building thirty minutes after spacecraft separation. The program will not be carried on NASA Television. Photographers wishing to establish remote cameras at Launch Complex 36 should be at the NASA-KSC News Center at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
