James E. Hattaway Jr.
Former Associate Director for Business Operations
James E. Hattaway Jr. was the associate director for Business Operations at the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Fla., at the time of his retirement in June 2010.
Hattaway holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tampa and a Master of Science from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Hattaway entered federal service in 1974 as a contract negotiator for the U. S. Air Force at Robins Air Force Base, Ga. In 1977, he transferred to KSC as a contracts specialist. After joining NASA, he has numerous managerial positions, serving as chief, Purchasing Services Section; chief, Construction and Ground Support Equipment Section; chief, Operations Contracts Office; and director, Procurement Office.
Throughout his career, Hattaway received numerous honors and awards, including Certificates of Commendation from the KSC Director in 1988 and 1994, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1990, the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 1999 and the Meritorious Executive Presidential Rank Award in 2001.
