Senior Engineering Project Manager

Julius “J.” Edelmann is a senior engineering project manager in the Exploration Research and Technologies Directorate at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Edelmann led a team that rapidly designed and built a new facility in 22 months to support life science research on the International Space Station.  

Experience

Prior to his current assignment, Edelmann served as the manager of the Spaceport Planning Office in the Center Planning and Development Office and Ground Systems lead for the Commercial Crew Program upon his return to Kennedy. 

Edelmann was senior program engineer in the Space Shuttle Program office in the Space Operations Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters.

Before relocating to Washington, D.C., in 2008, Edelmann worked in the Kennedy Shuttle Business Office in the areas of Transition and Retirement and was the launch site equipment technical resource manager.

Edelmann started his career at Kennedy as a shuttle systems engineer for the shuttle processing contractor in 1989 and supported many launches as a firing room console operator for both flight and critical ground systems.

Awards

Edelmann’s successes in project management have resulted in his receiving a NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, NASA’s Spaceflight Awareness Group Award, Spaceflight Awareness Award, Space Shuttle Program Star Award, and nomination for the Rotary National Award for Space Achievement.

Education

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Edelmann graduated from Pascack Valley Regional High School in Hillsdale, New Jersey, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in computer engineering in 1988 and 2000, respectively, from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.

Personal

Edelmann, his wife Shannon, and daughters Sabrina and Jessica live in Mims, Florida.
