Allard Beutel is the news chief in Media Services for External Relations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla. He is responsible for the editorial information disseminated from Kennedy's News Center. He is also responsible for Kennedy's public affairs officers who act as official agency spokespeople.
Beutel began his NASA career in 2002 at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. There, he served as the lead Public Affairs Officer in the Space Operations Mission Directorate, which directs the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Expendable Launch Vehicle programs, and Space Communications. Beutel transferred to Kennedy Space Center in September 2007 to become news chief.
Before joining NASA, Beutel was a journalist for 10 years. After working at several local television and radio news outlets in the Boston area, Beutel joined CNN Headline News in 1994. His experience included serving as a writer, copy editor, producer and on-air science and technology producer/correspondent.
Beutel holds a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Boston University.
