Dennis W. Armstrong
Dennis Armstrong is the manager of Public Web Operations at the Kennedy Space Center. In this capacity, he has served as the executive producer of the Agency’s NASA Direct Web programming since June 2003; manager of Kennedy’s Web production studio since February 2002; and editor/manager of the Kennedy home page Web site since April 2000. As the public Web information manager, he oversees a staff responsible for the production of mission-related Web broadcasts; live Web Shuttle launch and landing coverage at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and rocket launches at both Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California; feature videos and stories relating to mission-related events across the Agency, as well as news, photos and information relative to the Kennedy Space Center. He is a member of the NASA Portal Executive Board, which sets editorial policy for the Portal, and served on the advisory board that oversaw the migration of NASA’s center Web sites to the Portal in November 2004. He has worked in the External Relations and Public Affairs organization since 1995, with assignments in the Education Division, Business Office, and as a technical assistant to the Public Affairs director prior to accepting his current assignment in the Media Services Division in November 2001.

After joining NASA in November 1985, he served as a personnel management specialist and project manager in the Human Resources Office until 1991; technical assistant to the director, Human Resources Office; award fee advisor to the Kennedy deputy director; and business manager for the NASA Exchange prior to joining the Public Affairs Office.
Armstrong was raised by his maternal grandparents in a small farming community in west central Wisconsin where he was the last of three generations of family members to graduate from Ellsworth High School. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he received an AS in Business from North Hennepin Junior College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and an undergraduate degree in Italian Language in 1973 from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He also has extensive undergraduate study in Web design and graphics technology, as well as Masters-level study in computer operations.
Armstrong has an exceptionally broad and diverse background including sales, banking, Web site management, and home business ownership experience in private industry, and has authored and published two books, as well as several articles, primarily in genealogy-related publications. His federal government assignments have included positions as a federal police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, federal investigator in Houston, Texas, and New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as two overseas assignments for the Departments of the Navy and Air Force that included a total of nine years residency in Italy (Naval Support Activity, Naples; Naval Air Station, Signonella, Sicily; and Comiso Air Base, Comiso, Sicily [base has been decommissioned]).
Armstrong has received numerous performance, individual, and group achievement awards in a government career that has spanned nearly four decades. In his spare time, he enjoys videography, tennis, motorcycling, computing, and genealogy. He is married to the former Giuseppina Parziale of Naples, Italy. They have four grown children and six grandchildren.
