Governor to Speak Wednesday at Johnson Space Center

Texas Gov. Rick Perry will discuss the Emerging Technology Fund, a $300 million proposal to nurture Texas research institutions and develop advanced technologies, during a Wednesday, Feb. 23, visit to NASA's Johnson Space Center.

Media representatives are invited to attend the governor's 3:30 p.m. talk in a building housing full-size Space Station and Space Shuttle mockups. Perry will be introduced by JSC Director Jefferson D. Howell Jr. Also speaking will be U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

A media question-and-answer session is scheduled after the talks. The event is not open to the public.

Perry formally introduced the Emerging Technology Fund in December. Other Johnson Space Center representatives will speak briefly on technological advances, including those resulting from space exploration.

Media representatives wishing to attend should contact the Johnson Space Center newsroom at 281 483-5111 no later than noon on Wednesday. They should be in place at the JSC Public Affairs Office by 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to be transported to the event.
