NASA Astronaut to Speak at 2006 MESA Awards Banquet

NASA Astronaut and Colorado Springs native Dorothy “Dottie” Metcalf-Lindenburger will be the featured speaker at the 2006 Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) Awards Banquet May 23. The MESA Awards Banquet recognizes outstanding students and schools throughout Colorado.

The banquet will start at 6 p.m. at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd., Denver. The event is open to the media.

Metcalf-Lindenburger’s presentation, “Reach Beyond Your Limits,” will focus on the importance of science and math. It will be followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session.

Colorado MESA is a statewide program designed to encourage women, minority and economically disadvantaged students prepare for a college education.

Selected by NASA in May 2004, Metcalf-Lindenburger completed Astronaut Candidate Training in February 2006. Completion of this training qualifies her for future spaceflight assignments as an educator mission specialist.

To schedule an interview with Metcalf-Lindenburger, contact Gloria Nelson, Executive Director, Colorado MESA, at (303) 556-8568.
