NASA Sets Interviews With Next Shuttle Spacewalker Mike Fossum
NASA astronaut Mike Fossum, who will perform three spacewalks during the next space shuttle mission, is available for live satellite interviews from 6:40 to 8:40 a.m. EST, Thursday, March 9. To participate, media should contact NASA's Johnson Space Center Newsroom at: (281) 483-5111 by 4 p.m. EST, Wednesday, March 8.
His interviews will be carried live on the NASA TV analog satellite AMC-6, at 72 degrees west longitude; transponder 5C, 3800 MHz, vertical polarization, with audio at 6.8 MHz.
A native of McAllen, Texas, Fossum graduated from Texas A&M University in 1980. He was a distinguished military graduate from A&M and a squadron commander in the Corps of Cadets. Fossum received masters' degrees from the Air Force Institute of Technology and the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Shuttle Discovery's mission (STS-121) to the International Space Station will be Fossum's first space flight. It is targeted for launch no earlier than May 10. The mission continues the evaluation of flight safety procedures, including shuttle inspection and repair techniques.
Fossum will fly with Commander Steve Lindsey, pilot Mark Kelly, spacewalker Piers Sellers and mission specialists Stephanie Wilson and Lisa Nowak. European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Reiter is also part of the crew and will remain on the station for several months. For information about STS-121 on the Web, visit:
