Public, Media Invited to Hear Space Station Crewmembers

The public is invited to join two International Space Station Expedition 6 crewmembers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Mazda Theater at Space Center Houston as they share their ISS experiences.

Commander Ken Bowersox and NASA ISS Science Officer Don Pettit will talk to NASA and contractor employees, family members and friends as well as media and the public. The free briefing will include slides, a video presentation and a question-and-answer session.

Before the briefing, Johnson Space Center Director Jefferson D. Howell Jr., and lead Expedition 6 ISS Flight Directors Derek Hassmann and Norm Knight will recognize key individuals and teams for their contributions to the flight. Howell also will present the astronauts’ NASA Space Flight Medals.

Bowersox, Pettit and their fellow crewmember, Cosmonaut Nikolai Budarin, returned to Earth May 3 (May 4 in Kazakhstan, where they landed) after a successful mission to the orbiting laboratory that began with their launch Nov. 23, 2002. They docked to the station two days later. Their return was delayed by grounding of the shuttle fleet after the Columbia accident.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the 580-seat theater fills, remaining guests will be seated in an adjacent area to view the program electronically.
