NASA Updates Expedition One Progress

With the first week of Expedition One operations successfully completed, Lead Flight Director Jeff Hanley will conduct the second scheduled status briefing of the mission at 4:30 p.m. EST, Thursday, Nov. 9, from NASA's Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX.

The briefing will be carried live on NASA Television with question-and-answer capability from participating NASA centers.

Since arriving on the space station, the Expedition One crew -- Commander Bill Shepherd, Soyuz Commander Yuri Gidzenko and Flight Engineer Sergei Krikalev -- have been busy activating key support systems that supply the station with oxygen, remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and support communications with flight controllers in both Russia and the U.S.

Shepherd, Gidzenko and Krikalev will spend nearly four months aboard the station, returning to Earth with the STS-102 astronauts next February on the same mission that will bring their replacements to the orbiting outpost for the second Expedition flight.

A third mission status briefing with space station flight directors is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Nov. 16. Subsequent status briefings will be scheduled throughout the course of the Expedition One crew's stay on board the station.

NASA TV is available on GE-2, Transponder 9C at 85 degrees West longitude, vertical polarization, with a frequency of 3880 MHz, and audio of 6.8 MHz.
