NASA Invites News Media to Preview JSC Open House 2000 (Revised Time)

News media are invited to enjoy a special preview of the Johnson Space Center’s Open House from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. August 25. Participants will see many of the same exhibits and programs that will be available to the public during JSC’s annual Open House on Saturday, August 26.

JSC Open House 2000 takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. The event is free and open to the public. Friday’s media activities begin at 1 p.m. CDT with a number of open house exhibitors and volunteers available for on-camera interviews about Open House activities. From 2 to 5 p.m., media representatives will have an opportunity to tour several JSC facilities that will be among the 18 buildings open to the public on Saturday.

In addition, NASA employees from several Texas cities will be made available for “live shot” interviews with their hometown television stations Aug. 23 and 24. For details on how to participate, contact Stephanie Zeluck at 281-483-9071 or 713-508-0581 (pager).

On Aug. 26, more than 100 displays and exhibits will showcase all of JSC's programs. In addition, tours will be provided of Mission Control, the Sonny Carter Training Facility, where astronauts train for space walks in the largest indoor "pool" in the world, as well as Ellington Field, where NASA training jets, Shuttle Training Aircraft and the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft will be on display. Astronauts will be on hand at various locations throughout.
