Public Invited to JSC Picnic to Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Apollo 11

The public is invited to join NASA and its contractor team in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Apollo 11, the first landing of a man on the moon, with a family picnic and reunion from 4:30 p.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday, July 22, at JSC’s Gilruth Recreation Center.

“The landing of Apollo 11 will always remain one of the proudest moments in history for America and Houston,” JSC Director George Abbey said. “We hope our friends and neighbors will join us as we celebrate one of humankind’s greatest achievements.”

The event will feature Texas bar-b-que, beverages and snacks. There will be free hot dogs for children 12 and under, and special Apollo 11 30th anniversary buttons while supplies last. Live entertainment will also be a part of the event.

Limited tickets for $10 are available at Space Center Houston and the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce through Tuesday, July 20.

On Thursday, July 22, the JSC main gate located at NASA Road 1 and Saturn will open at 4 p.m. for the event. Guest parking and tram service will be available to the picnic site.
