Space Station Test Article on
Display
The structural test article of a section of the International Space
Station truss will be on display for Johnson Space Center employees
and news media representatives on Wednesday, December 16, from 11:30
a.m. to 3 p.m. The truss is the backbone of the space station,
linking the pressurized modules with the solar power arrays.
The test article has been undergoing vibro-acoustic testing in Johnson
Space Center's Building 49 for the past six weeks. While it is not
the actual flight article, it is identical to the center segment of
the 300-foot truss, attached to the U.S. Laboratory. It is to be
launched on Shuttle mission STS-108/8A, currently targeting a
January, 2001 launch. International Space Station engineers will be
on hand at Building 49 to answer questions.
Media representatives interested in seeing the flight test article
should call the Johnson Space Center newsroom at 281-483-5111 no
later than 5 p.m. December 15.
