Media Invited to Attend American
Astronautical Society Conference
Congressman Nicholas Lampson (D-Texas) will deliver the keynote
address Nov. 17 at this year’s American Astronautical Society
National Conference and Annual Meeting at South Shore Harbour Resort
in League City. The theme of this year’s conference is "Space
Station and the International Human Exploration and Development of
Space," and it will focus heavily on the upcoming assembly of the
International Space Station and the recently completed joint U.S.
Russian cooperative space flights.
The conference provides a forum for engineers, scientists and policy
makers from industry, government and academia to discuss the human
exploration and development of space.
Media with professional credentials are invited to attend any of the
technical sessions of the conference which runs from Nov. 17-19. To
reserve a space in advance, contact Carolyn Brown at 703-866-0020.
Lampson’s address begins at 9 a.m. Also on Nov. 17, Wesley
Huntress with the Carnegie Institute of Washington will deliver the
second annual Carl Sagan Memorial Lecture. James Wetherbee, astronaut
and deputy director of the NASA Johnson Space Center will chair a
panel discussion "Pioneering Across Technical and Cultural Boundaries
During Phase 1" at a luncheon following the morning program.
The AAS was established in 1954 as a professional, non-profit
organization to promote knowledge of, support for and interest in
space activities through technical publications, symposia, national
conferences and education initiatives.
