Lawrence Moves to Rotational Assignment
at National Reconnaissance Office
Astronaut Wendy Lawrence (Cmdr., USN) has accepted a rotational
assignment as the Deputy Director of the Strategy and Plans Office in
the Advanced Systems and Technology Directorate of the National
Reconnaissance Office. The reassignment was effective August 19.
A veteran of three space flights and two visits to Russia’s Mir
space station, Lawrence’s extensive space flight experience
will help her foster technology cooperation between the NRO and other
technical partners.
"Wendy’s work and experience at NASA will allow her to make
unique contributions to future National Reconnaissance Office
technology initiatives," said David C. Leestma, director of Flight
Crew Operations. "She’ll be quite effective in helping the NRO
develop opportunities with its technology partners."
Lawrence remains a member of the astronaut corps during this
rotational assignment, and will be eligible for spaceflight upon
return to the Astronaut Office at the Johnson Space Center. Selected
into the astronaut corps in 1992, she has logged 894 hours in space
during her three missions, STS-67, STS-86 and STS-91.
