RELEASE 93-53

Note to Editors:

HST TRAINING AND OPERATIONS MEDIA WORKSHOP PLANNED

A workshop for news media is being scheduled for August 16-18 at the Johnson Space Center to familiarize reporters with the training and operations leading up to the first servicing mission of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST SM-01), currently scheduled for launch in December.

The workshop will include briefings on mission preparation and round-robin interviews with the seven-member crew. In addition, the workshop will include hands-on demonstrations of tools and training methods to provide as much insight as possible for reporters planning to cover the mission.

The dates for the workshop currently coincide with the first major fully-integrated simulation, which will begin August 17 and continue for 36 hours. The exercise will include a six-hour water tank session by two of the crew members to simulate the first spacewalk planned for the mission.
