RELEASE NO. 93-029

"TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS TO WORK" EVENT SCHEDULED

The Johnson Space Center's Federal Women's Program Council will sponsor a "Take Our Daughters to Work" event on Wednesday, April 28.

Fifty civil service sponsors will bring a daughter, niece, cousin or neighbor between the ages of 9 and 15 to their work place and give the girls an opportunity to observe the employees at work.

Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Teague Auditorium with selected employees presenting information about their work places followed by tours of those areas. The girls will meet for lunch, then pair off with their sponsors to observe a normal day's business activities.

The program encourages the girls to imagine themselves as engineers, scientists, journalists, paralegals, technicians, lawyers and others, careers they otherwise may not have considered.

"Take Our Daughters to Work" was created by the Ms. Foundation for Women, a national multi-issue public women's fund that supports efforts of women and girls to govern their own lives.

News media representatives are invited to cover the opening ceremonies, presentations in the Teague Auditorium, Bldg. 2, and to accompany selected tour groups to JSC facilities. News media interested in participating should notify Ms. Billie Deason at 713-483-5111.
