Researchers Analyze Peridotite Rock Sample

JSC2010-E-120281 (1 Sept. 2010) --- This is a fragment of the mantle root of the Kaapvaal craton, found at the Finsch diamond mine in South Africa. The sample, a rock called peridotite, is about 10 centimeters wide. A detail of the cut section shows the main minerals: pink garnet, green clinopyroxene, greenish white orthopyroxene, and a dark matrix made of olivine. Photo by Marina Lazarov.
