In mid-summer 1971, Apollo 15 astronauts explored the Hadley-Apennine region of the Moon from a motorized, wheeled buggy called a lunar rover. Using this vehicle enabled the astronauts to collect more samples of lunar material than previous missions, about 171 pounds. Lunar sample 15498 was classified as a breccia rock and weighted 2340 grams when returned to Earth.
